Banquet Challenge 2017

It has been a long-standing tradition in the Schekman lab for Randy to propose challenges to the lab to reach specific research goals, and to reward the lab with a banquet at a pricey restaurant for meeting those goals.  Sadly, it has been many years since the last successful banquet challenge, because apparently some of the more recent ones were just TOO challenging.

However, I’m happy to report that the banquet drought finally came to an end this year, thanks to the combined efforts of Lin Yuan and Amita Gorur, who built upon the past work of Chris Fromme, Kanika Bajaj, and Satoshi Baba over the last ten years in our studies on the packaging of large cargo.

The Challenge:

The paper that satisfied the challenge:

COPII-coated membranes function as transport carriers of intracellular procollagen I.

The reward!

The banquet was held at Murray Circle Restaurant, just north of the Golden Gate Bridge.  It was a beautiful day, with an abundance of fine food and wine for all!
